Welcome to Dawlish | |
On the coast of South Devon between the Exe and the Teign, Dawlish - the home of the famous "Black Swans" - was a small village until it began to attract summer visitors in the 1790s. In fact Dawlish was some distance from sea, being originally clustered around the parish church of St. Gregory!
Its present day appearance owes much to the landscaping in between the old village and the sea in the 1800s and the town really came to prominence as a seaside resort when the South Devon Railway was built along the sea wall by Brunel.
