Shaldon is a village full of olde-world charm, with many narrow streets and quaint cottages, some dating back to the 1600's.
It has two main beaches, one of which is accessed by a tunnel under the "Ness". This is ideal for families with small children.
There is also a small Zoo (with exotic birds, small mammals and reptiles), botanical gardens and a nine-hole pitch and putt course.
Shaldon lies at the mouth of the river Teign opposite the town of Teignmouth which has amenities which include arcades, pier, beach, theatre and bowling green. It is connected by a passenger ferry which runs regularly during the day to and from Shaldon.
From April to September the village holds a "1785-Day" every Wednesday where local craftspeople dress up in period costumes and sell their wares on the village green, with live entertainment in the early evening.
In the summer the village holds a water carnival and a week-long sailing regatta - see the Events calendar for details.
